placed on the maximum pay of his post, viz.:- £360. He will when in the New Territories draw Field Allowance under General Order 132.

3. There must also be a sub-inspector for the llew Territories. He should be a Hakka and I propose that the salary of the post should be 8480 rising to 8540 (Grade V) with a consolidat- -ed travelling and field allowance of $360 per annum.

4. Miss Noronha's title, 2nd. Grade Supervisor of Girl's Schools, must be changed to that of Sub-Inspector, follow- -ing the language of the draft Ordinance. Her duties, which are largely clerical, will be somewhat increased; and I propose that provision be made for a shorthand allowance for her, if and when

she passes.

5. The 5th. Grade Supervisor of Vernacular Schools should be called Sub-Inspector. I do not propose any change in his

emoluments.

6. I propose that the clerk at the Technical Institute be transferred to the Education Office. At present he works morn- -ings and evenings only, but I propose to continue him in (rade V and to give him an allowance of $15 per mensem for his evening work at the Technical Institute.
